There are two separate but interrelated and complementary aspects of this project; a museum showcasing the history of the horse in Australia as well as a stables complex. The museum was designed with five gallery rooms, a library, a temporary exhibition room, café and workshop and storage areas. Extensive study and research was undertaken to inform the museum design in particular. A study tour to targeted museums and galleries in the USA, England, Denmark, Germany and France contributed to the depth of knowledge specific to this project. Museum curators from public institutions were consulted as were consultant professional exhibition designers. The design adhered to the principles of the One Planet Sustainable Buildings and Construction Program. Our role extended to curating an art collection to represent the theme as well as broader cultural advice.
